Kosamattam Finance Limited (KFL) is a systemically important, non-deposit-taking Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) registered with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Headquartered in Kottayam, Kerala, the company represents the financial arm of the Kosamattam Group, which has a multi-decade operating history under the leadership of Mathew Kosamattom Cherian, a fourth-generation entrepreneur. KFL is primarily positioned as a prominent player in the retail gold loan space, catering to customers who need immediate liquidity against physical gold collateral.
KFL's core business model is centered on Gold Loan financing, which accounts for over 95% of its total loan assets. Gold loans are characterized by rapid processing times, demand-driven tenures (up to 12 months), and structural security backed by household gold jewelry. To manage credit risks, the company utilizes conservative loan-to-value (LTV) limits, secure branch vaults with advanced electronic surveillance, and conducts standardized public auctions in cases of default. KFL has also diversified into ancillary financial operations, holding a Full-Fledged Money Changers (FFMC) license, acting as a composite corporate agent for insurance companies, and offering depository participant services.
As of June 30, 2026, the company operated an expansive distribution network comprising 991 branches across India, supported by a workforce of 4,242 employees. KFL exhibits a heavy geographical concentration in Southern India, with Kerala (308 branches), Tamil Nadu (388 branches), and Karnataka (179 branches) accounting for more than 88% of its total branch network. The company maintains active marketing, print, and electronic promotional programs within these localized communities to build customer trust and drive brand recall.
As an NBFC engaged in financial services, Kosamattam Finance Limited does not operate any manufacturing units. Its asset profile is composed of property, plant, and equipment (branch premises and computer accessories) and financial assets (such as its gold loan receivables book) [203, Image 59]. The company does, however, own minor non-financial physical assets, including 108.74 acres of agricultural cardamom plantation land in Idukki, Kerala, and four wind energy generator units in Ramakkalmedu, Kerala, which generated supplementary revenues of Rs 1.48 Crore and Rs 6.63 Lakhs, respectively, in FY26.
